Choose AI agents when the work is variable, language-heavy, requires judgment, or spans many tools—and you can tolerate probabilistic outputs with strong guardrails. Evaluate both with the same checklist: task variability, failure cost, data/tool access, control & observability, security/compliance, and unit economics (time saved vs. compute + oversight).
